in the past 30 days, whamcat has blocked 2288 attempts
to either deliver spam locally or relay spam through whamcat to other domains.
in that time, 267 have been dictionary attacks or attempts
to relay more than 10 emails to non-local addresses or more then 3 local addresses at once.
this translates into a monetary savings of approximatly $515.27US
dollars based on bandwidth cost, storage cost, and end user cost.
this is assuming that an attempt to deliver spam locally would have resulted in 10 emails stored.
an attempt to relay spam would have resulted in 1000 emails being delivered to external hosts.
and finally, a sucessful dictionary delivery would result in 10 emails delivered locally
and 10000 (average dictionary send is much higher then 10000 emails. while most email servers
choke or get choked around the 20k mark, i have seen dictionary queues as high as 300k).
emails delivered externally. cost is based on a yearly wage of $45000US, pipe and bandwidth
cost of $7500US a year for dedicated T3, $1.25US per gigabyte and finally an average of 30 seconds
spent by the user actually waiting for the email to be delivered, investigating and deleting the
offending email.
